Crews are working to repair a water main break near a senior community in San Jose that was reported this afternoon, fire and environmental services officials said.
Fire crews were notified of the main break around 12:40 p.m. on westbound The Villages Parkway and Hounds Estates, San Jose fire Capt. Cleo Doss said.
The flow of water was stronger earlier in the afternoon but lessened as of about 2:30 p.m., according to Doss.
The break is outside the gate to a community for people ages 55 and older, he said.
Crews from the San Jose Municipal Water System were at the scene and stopped the leaking water at 4:55 p.m., according to Jennie Loft, a spokeswoman for the city's Environmental Services Department, which oversees the system.
The pipe that broke is connected to a fire hydrant that will also be repaired, Loft said.
There is no estimated time when repairs will be completed, she said.
No evacuations have been ordered for homes or businesses in the area, according to Doss.
Water service has not been affected for customers in the area, Loft said.
The intersection is closed and traffic is being diverted to Hounds and Silver estates, Doss said. |
